About Granger Liu

Granger Liu is a classical pianist, filmmaker, and multidisciplinary artist with interests in music, visual storytelling, and creative media. She graduated from DePauw University in May 2026 with a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance and a minor in Film. During her senior semester, she was named to the Dean’s List in recognition of her academic achievement. Granger joined the Greencastle Summer Music Festival, where she serves as Communications & Media Coordinator for the 2026–2027 seasons. In this role, she wrote press releases and concert programs, managed the festival's social media, produced promotional photography, edited performance and marketing videos, and coordinated communications with guest artists and musicians.

Granger began studying piano at the age of five. At DePauw, she studied piano with May Phang and Claude Cymerman and also studied conducting and orchestration with Orcenith Smith. These experiences helped her develop a broader understanding of musical interpretation, structure, collaboration, and ensemble work.

Her musical achievements include awards from national and international competitions such as the Asian Piano Art Festival, the China-Singapore International Music Competition, and the New York International Music Competition. She has received recognition in solo performance, piano duet, Chinese repertoire, and other specialized categories, including first prizes in the Liszt 200th Anniversary International Piano Open Competition and the Chinese Works category of the China-Singapore International Music Competition.

Her repertoire includes works from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and modern periods. Through studying and performing music of different styles, she continues to develop her technique, musical understanding, and individual approach to interpretation.

At the 2026 DePauw Annual Juried Student Exhibition, Granger submitted four works, three of which were selected for exhibition. Her short film, What Anxiety Feels Like, received the New Media Award, making her the first artist in the history of the exhibition to receive this award.

Her artistic background also includes six years of ballet training and a Level 6 Ballet Certificate from the Beijing Dance Academy. This experience has influenced her understanding of movement, rhythm, and physical expression.

Alongside piano performance, Granger is also interested in filmmaking, animation, photography, visual art, and voice acting. More recently, she has begun exploring fragrance and cocktail making, with a growing curiosity about how sound, scent, taste, and visual elements can come together to create distinctive multisensory artistic experiences.
